Pramod Bhagat nomination for Para Badminton Player of Year

 

Pramod Bhagat India's Tokyo Paralympics gold winner, on Thursday by the sport's world body was named among six shuttlers for the Male Para Badminton Player of the Year. However in the able-bodied awards' categories none of his compatriots featured.

Bhagat along with Manoj Sarkar and five other nominees have been named for the newly introduced Para Badminton Pair of the Year.

Bhagat, who as a four year old had contracted polio, picked up the sport after watching his neighbours play. Before getting into competitive para badminton in 2006, he initially competed against able-bodied players.

Bhagat, current world number one and is also Asian champion in SL3 where athletes with lower limb impairment compete.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) had introduced two new award categories and during the Bali Leg of the HSBC BWF World Tour in Indonesia in November-December, the winners will be announced.
