1 Billion Vaccines administered in India



 India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 100 crore doses in a landmark achievement, on Thursday. As per the Cowin portal eligible beneficiaries amounting to a total of 100 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far.

On January 16, 2021, India's COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched, and only opened for Health Care Workers (HCWs) followed by front-line workers from February 2 and the rest followed.

From March 1, the vaccination drive was expanded to include persons those above 45 years with associated specified 20 comorbidities and above 60 years of age. From April 1, anyone above 45 years of age was eligible for vaccination. From May 1 COVID-19 vaccination was made available for all persons above 18 years of age. 

Piyush Goyal, Union Commerce Minister today hailed the landmark and said that India would soon have all citizens with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
